Chad Ferrin Interview - The Deep Ones, Lovecraft & Tentacly Goodness
/

NHE host Scott Murphy chats to writer/director Chad Ferrin about his latest feature “The Deep Ones.” A Lovecraftian horror picture done very much in the 80s mould.

In the interview (the interview begins at 1:44) we talk to Chad about why he is such a Lovecraft fan, what he thinks is behind the resurgence of cinematic interest in Lovecraftian material and why he took the unusual decision to have characters read actual passages of Lovecraft writing in the film. Plus why he thought it was important to have a professional distance from himself and the actors on set and drove home everyday (a 140-mile round trip!) instead of staying on location.

Elsewhere, in the interview you will hear how “Re-Animator” composer Richard Band and renowned horror actress Kelli Maroney came aboard the project, what of the many practical effects was the most fun to shoot as well as Chad talking some of the more unusual influences on his film (including ’60s gothic soap opera Dark Shadows).

“The Deep Ones” will be released in the US on May 1st 2021
