NHE host Scott Murphy chats to directing duo John C. Lyons & Dorota Swies about their new film “Unearth.” A Lovecraftian influenced Eco-horror which explores the social impact of the fracking industry.
In the interview (the interview begins at 1:40) John & Dorota talk to us about the long journey to get the movie into production, the challenging outdoor shoot for the film and how some of the starrier names in the cast (Adrienne Barbeau & Marc Blucas) became attached to the project. Plus, we get into to the many social issues tackled in the film from the environmental impact of fracking to rural decline in the US to corporate exploitation of working class and how they both felt horror was the best conduit to explore such themes.
Elsewhere in the interview, Scott talks to John & Dorota about the greatest cinematic influences on their film, their feelings on the new digital festival environment and their thoughts on the recent rise of Eco-horror. Plus, they dig into the thorny topic of so-called “elevated” horror.
