The Guilty Pleasures Podcast - Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead (2006)

Welcome back to our ongoing Guilty Pleasure’s bonus series! A series we begun as part of our friends Bloodhound Pix #HorrorNotFear campaign, which will see New Horror Express along with several other outlets offering bonus content up until June 2021. But is now also a proud part of the Morbidly Beautiful network!

We ran a poll on social media platforms to see which film we would look at in our Troma edition of the series between “Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV” and “Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead.” And by a fine margin you went with Troma’s 2006 effort “Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead.”

Alongside NHE host Scott Murphy to delve into this one we have some great former guests in “Mutant Blast” (which was produced by Troma) director Fernando Alle and “They’re Outside” co-directors Airell Anthony Hayles and Sam Casserly.

Over the course of the episode the four of us try decipher the all the usual Troma-level madness, marvel at all the various inventive kills in the film and note that our protagonist Arbie comes across less likable now than he maybe did back in 2006.

Elsewhere in the episode we get some great behind-the-scenes Troma information from Fernando (who worked on Return to Nuke ‘Em High), talk about this movie’s troubled production and discuss how the direction of a joke matters in comedy. Plus, for the Troma fans as well as talking about this movie we detour through Troma history also talking about “Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV,” “The Toxic Avenger,” “Class of Nuke ‘Em High,” “Sgt Kabukiman,” “Surf Nazis Must Die,” “Combat Shock” and others.
